Govinda is a dynamic Indian film actor and a former politician. He has made his debut in 1986 and since then he has acted in over 120 films. He is one of the most successful actors and best dancer in bollywood. He is best known for his comedy roles in Bollywood films. In 1990’s he gained fame for playing comedy roles mainly in 1992 film “Shola Aur Shabnam”. Later, he was seen in several films like Aankhen, Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Hero No. 1 and Haseena Maan Jayegi. He was last seen as a judge in DID Super Moms season 2 on Zee Tv.

Biography

Govinda was born as Govind Arun Ahuja on 21 December 1963 in Virar, Maharashtra. He completed his graduation in commerce from Annasaheb Vartak College in Vasai, Maharashtra. After performing in a line of films, he also proved himself as a villain in the movie “Shikari”. In 2013 he released his music album “Gori Tere Naina”. In addition to the films, Govinda was also a Politician for Indian National Congress party. He was elected as the seventh Member of Parliament for the Mumbai North Constituency of Maharashtra. In 2009 General Elections, he quit from politics to concentrate only on films.

Career

After completing his graduation, Govinda’s father suggested him to have a career in films. Around this time, Govinda saw the film Disco Dancer after which he oldpracticed for hours and circulated a promotion of himself on a VHS cassette. Later, he made his acting debut with the film “Ilzaam” in the year 1986. He was first seen in the lead role with the film “Tan-Badan” which was directed by his uncle Anand. In 1992, he was seen in the critically acclaimed film, Zulm Ki Hukumat an Indian remake of movie “The Godfather”, where his performance was appreciated.

During the 1980s, Govinda’s films spanned genres and included family, drama, action, and romance. He started out as an action hero in the 80’s and reinvented himself as a comedy hero in 90’s. At one time, Amitabh co-starred with him on his comeback to rejuvenate his market when his comeback films failed miserably.

Govinda has launched a restaurant named “Hero No. 1” in Rajouri Garden area of west Delhi. The place will offer a lavish gourmet experience to food connoisseurs. Guests can enjoy food from a multi-cuisine menu with live music.

Family

Govind Arun Ahuja was born to Arun Kumar Ahuja, who was a great actor and singer/actress Nirmala Devi. He is the youngest of six children, his nick name is Chi Chi, which means little finger in Punjabi. His brother, Kirti Kumar is an actor, producfamilyer and director. His sister, Kaamini Khanna is a writer, music director, singer, anchor and founder of “Beauty with Astrology”. He is married to Sunita Ahuja. The couple has two children, one son Yashvardan Ahuja and one daughter Narmada Ahuja. Vinay Anand, the film director is his uncle. His maternal uncle Anand Singh, was an assistant director.

Govinda is married to Sunita Ahuja on 11 March 1987. Their marriage was a closely guarded secret for four years. He just escaped death on 5 January 1994 while travelling to a studio for the shooting of Khuddar. Though bleeding profusely, he didn’t cancel the shooting. After visiting a doctor, he shot for the film till midnight. He is very dedicated towards acting and loves dance a lot. He has received classical music training as a child.
